8.2.1 opens then immediately closes. **Solved**

I just installed the free version of Fusion v.8.2.1

My laptop is within the minimum system requirements stated in the manual. When I open the program, I get a notification to "click Win.+ "G" to open Game bar" which quickly disappears, then the app opens for an instant and closes. This all happens within about 2 seconds.

Any ideas what the problem may be?

Win. 10 64bit
i7-6700HQ Quad-Core 2.6 GHz
16 GB DDR4 SDRAM
GTX 960M with 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM
Samsung 512 GB M.2 PCIe
Native Resolution 3840 x 2160

if i remember right there are some issues when you have nvidia shadowplay enabled

As far as I know, I don't have shadowplay, part of GeForce Experience, or any streaming service running.

I don't know if it is a clue that the Game Bar dialog pops up. According to what I can find, that is an element of the XBox app on Win. 10. And you generally need to manually start it by using the Win. key + G key. But it pops up by itself and then disappears when I try to start Fusion.

Is anyone successfully using Fusion 8.2.1 on Windows 10?

Thanks Michael. I've tried the usual open as admin/ permissions/ compatibility mode, all with no effect. The program opens, I can see the workspace, and then it instantly closes. I have no clue. Resolve runs on this machine with no issues.

More data points.

Fusion 7.7.1 . When installed, the Win. Firewall pops up and verifies that the application can be let through. Then it works fine.

Tried all the versions starting with 8.0 and all fail (act the same, start then close).
When any v.8.x is installed, the Firewall notification does NOT pop up like with v.7.7.1
I turned the firewall off anyway and it makes no difference, starts then closes.

Have you tried uninstalling that XBox app? I have no idea why that would interfere, but I also have no idea why it would activate upon starting Fusion.

I don't think the xBox app is the culprit. It is part of Win 10 by default and Michael confirms Fusion 8.2.1 is working for him on Win 10. I did go in to the app and turn off the Game Bar, which BTW is a screen capture tool. It does not pop up now, but made no difference.

There are other posts in here with similar issues with v8, and mostly only dropping back to v7 was the solution. Some suggest it is a problem with FusionQTServer. I guess only BMD knows what change was made that would cause this. This is on a relatively new Asus laptop running win 10 with few programs installed. So I doubt it is an isolated case. But of course, I don't know. Fusion 8.2.1 installs and runs ok on my old workstation with a weak gpu. This makes me think it is something in Win 10 specifically that is a problem for whatever changed under the hood going to v8.

Does Fusion create an error log somewhere? It does not display and error, and I haven't found a log anywhere.

I finally figured it out.

I am using an UHD display and if I turn the resolution down Fusion will open like normal. Apparently it won't work with 3840 x 2160 and unfortunately does not tell you that is why it is closing.
