Hi guys

I had some confusion in what "sets" mean in the particle tools?

i recently read in the book "the vfx fundamental: Fusion 8"

that it is best to use the pspawn in set 2

does the pspawn doesn't work if is not in a checked set??

please let me know if i am wrong??

please and thank you

Edwin, I am going to be blunt here, but do yourself a favor and look up some things in the manual before asking them here. As you know we're always glad to help, but we're not here to learn the software for you.

That being said:
The reason you use sets is so you can affect different particles in different ways. So if you create a particle in set 1 and one in set 2 and you have two directional forces, one with angle -90 affecting set 1 and one with angle 90 affecting set 2, then one of them will go up and one of them will go down.

That's why it makes sense to use a pSpawn set to set 2. Since you create new particles with a new look/feel, there's a good chance that you want them to behave differently as well.

You might get some benefit from an article I wrote a while back about some interesting stuff you can do with Fusion particles:

http://www.bryanray.name/wordpress/link ... ic-fusion/

The main thrust of the article was instancing geometry onto particles, but I also talked a bit about using Sets, Probability, and the age controls in pSpawn, and pCustom.

Hi Bryan,

That's a slightly more productive answer than I gave. Very cool thing you did with the tutorial. Especially the lasers. Those are a nice touch.

Hi Bryan,

just as a side note: nice collection of articles you wrote! Specially that about rotoscoping, which is a subject that has very little information out there.

Already bookmarked them all.

Thanks! Many of those articles are first drafts of chapters for an upcoming (I hope) textbook. I am very open to commentary and critique on them. Comments from experienced users to correct my mistakes and new users to let me know if something is confusing or inadequately explained are both useful.

Bryant thanks a lot for the article i will look it up

Sander i understand that i still am not as intermediate as most users in the forum, im not trying to make anyone do the work for me, silly as it sounds, im just really confused to what im actually doing and all i want it some guidence from pros like you.

I have a better suggestion for some effects i might get stuck with

When i try to make something i shall upload photos or pictures of my progress and anyone in the forum is free to critique

I just want to be good at this and i will prove it too you
Little by little

Thanks again to both of you
I appreciate the help :)
