Only vers 8.0 beta Fusion loads on my 2011 macbook pro

Any later Fusion version, from 8.1 up says "install successful" but only goes to spinning beachball and then locks up and never starts. Fusion Studio versions using a verified working dongle only will not see the dongle. DaVinci 12.5 lite runs well but slowly and will fusion connect just fine to Fusion 8.0 beta.
Yes yes, I know I should have at least two gigs of gpu memory but I've tried running Fusion 8.2.1 on a 2010 mac tower with only 1 gig of gpu memory and it starts and runs okay, studio version with recognized too. Mystified.

specs: early 2011 macbook pro I7 - AMD RADEON 6750M 1024mb
16gigs ram
El Capitian 10.11.6

Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm running Fusion 8.2.1 mainly on a MacPro but also on an early 2013 MacBook Pro i7, 16GB - but that one has an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (also just 1GB GPU mem) - ran fine under 10.11.6 and still does under 10.12.4.

Anything in the console (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) when you try to launch Fusion 8.2.1?

Thank you, John. That's helpful to know, and leads me to believe versions later than just Fusion 8.0 beta should probably run on my macbook. Appreciate the suggestion to check the console app, I did that, but the results are it's a bit greek to me. Trying now to learn how to understand the errors now.
