Fusion 8.2.1 build 6

I have delays when trying to using loaders, savers, opening projects, saving them, waiting for the dialog box to appear, to the point of Windows telling me the program is non-responsive... upwards of 30 seconds.

I saw another thread here where people were saying Fusion was crashing when they did the same thing (perhaps they're not waiting long enough, I don't know.)

I noticed the dialog boxes aren't Windows default formatted, so perhaps that has something to do with it. Anyone else have this issue?

The short answer is : fusion has to wait for Windows to check for network drives or external drives in sleep mode.
If you have some favorites and/or recently used files which are on a network drive which is not available, a external drive in energy save/sleep mode fusion waits for the response of Windows. Which will take about 60 seconds

I had the same issue with Windows 8. Then it was because all memory card slots were enumerated even though there weren't any memory cards inserted. As a workaround I disabled the slots I never used.

I haven't noticed this issue in Windows 10 though.

Not an issue in Win 10.
