Noob Needs help

PostThu Apr 27, 2017 7:32 pm

Hello all,I am Yish, trying to get what seems to be a simple logical thing to work in Fusion 8

I have a sky/cloud image that i am using as a still background, I have another image much smaller being animated where i want it to appear from behind the clouds, i managed to use the sky/cloud image which is white and blue as both the background and as a mask to hide the animated image under white clouds and not under blue sky. but merging these 2 together with the way i have this piped up does not seem to work. I hope i explained it well

Here is a shot with notes of my flow page and the two...

Hi - it's hard to see what you're actually doing without the details. Few questions:

- could you post a picture with the result of the Merg3D with an appropriate angle so that we can see the different elements?
- I assume that the ImagePlane works out? i.e. you just have the clouds and the blue is keyed out?

i would say the problem here is that you put the mask into a imageplane. the wand tool only creates the mask and not the new image with only the clouds left.

you must multiply your footage with the mask from the wand tool to recieve only the clouds and pipe that into the foremost image plane.

just out of curiosity: why do you do this as a 3d comp?

Sorry, i was overthinking it and instead just fixed it with an ultra key to clear out the sky portion of the duplicate image and soften it a bit to give realism to the interacting animation. Turning out pretty good so far. Really just practising at a real go at node based compositing and fusion altogether coming from hitfilm pro.

I wanted to take advantage of using the 3d space to give some parralax to the motion overall as well as to see what i can do without really digging into the manual.
