The NBA Jam "He's on fire" effect

PostSat Jul 01, 2017 11:38 am

Hello everybody,

it's my first post and i'm an absolute beginner with fusion and already an ambitious goal i guess. Can't really say if it's something simple or complex stuff, but at that level nothing is simple for me in Fusion i would say :D

So, what i would like to make is a video effect mixing a footage with kinda NBA Jam effects. I would keept that simple only making a "he's on fire" shot. This means, the player who is "on fire" will get the ball. Then the ball is in his hands it starts to glow. He release the shot and the ball is burning, when the ball hits the net, the net burns. For those, who is not familiar with the game, here an example (you can see it from 0:43):

First question: had somebody maybe already done this with Fusion before? Or even better: is there maybe some tutorial for that out there?
Second: how would this be done? I guess it's a) tracking the ball and b) overlaying this with an animation(?). Do you make the animation with Fusion too?
Last question (probably makes the whole thing really complicated, so i would maybe even leave this effect out): how do you make a smoke trail which follows the burning ball? Do you have to make an animation calculating the right angle and stuff. Or could Fusion do it automatically when u set the tracker?

Sorry if some questions are slightly stupid  I'm new to this, but want to start as quick as possible to finish such project soon.
