Is there a way to remove a modifier from a tool without deleting it?

Right-Click on the modified parameter and choose Remove <modifier>. (near the bottom, but not at the bottom of the menu)
Or Right-Click on the name of the modifier in the modifier stack and choose Delete.
Or Select the modifier in the modifier stack (click on the title) and hit the Delete key.

If the Modifier is still connected to something else somewhere in your flow, then removing it from a tool will not delete it. It will no longer appear in the Modifiers tab of the tool you removed it from, but it still exists in the other tool.

I see. I misunderstood the question. I typically use Remove with right-click, which believe will keep it elsewhere. If you use the Delete method does it delete all copies?

I don't think so. As long as it's still referenced somewhere it should persist. You just want to be sure you don't delete or remove the last copy if you plan to use the modifier again elsewhere.
