Fusion 9 Studio - Dongle?

PostTue Aug 01, 2017 6:28 pm

Hello,

Can anyone answer if Fusion 9 Studio / $299 comes with a dongle? I would like to be able to move the app between a couple workstations and without the dongle, that could be a little tricky.

Thanks in advance

Pretty sure a dongle is still required.

Blackmagic has been strangely mum so far, nothing on the front page etc. I'm expecting that to change very soon with a proper press release. I'm heading to Siggraph tomorrow so I'll make sure to ask the Blackmagic reps.

I can confirm Fusion 9 will only be Dongle.

Just backing up RayT, here's the installer on Linux:

Minimum system requirements for Linux

● CentOS 6.6 or later
● At least 1 GB disk space
● Minimum 8 GB RAM, 16 GB recommended
● USB 2.0 port for Fusion Studio Licensing Key

If the dongle licensing could be deprecated, that would be awesome. But if you don't want users pirating for the pro features, that's also understandable.

Didn't they drop the dongle requirement for Resolve 14 though? The final version that is, beta still requires dongle from what I've read.

Though I guess Resolve might be in a different spot due to the hardware connections.

FWIW....just spoke with Blackmagic's person at Siggraph and the dongle is here to stay for the time being. They seemed to indicate that in the future, Fusion might go to a serial # authorization much like Resolve will be, but they didn't give me any timeline.

So yes, Studio requires a dongle and an open USB port.
