Particle system

PostTue Aug 08, 2017 6:29 am

Particle system is very important in compositing tool. In Fusion9, probably it has not updated. Since the announcement in 2002?, there is no big update.

Fusion's particle system is simple and has a possibility. But anyway it is very slow now. Sub-frame calculation or motion blur is nightmare. (I think Fusion's Motion blur system is also a potential problem.)

Should Blackmagic redesign it soon? What do you think?

It's hard to compete with "Particular", especially in version 3…

Besides the nice presets, I haven't seeing anything in particular version 3 that can't be done with the Fusion's particle system.

Also, what Theodor said.

I'd say that Fusion 's particle system is powerful, yes, it can do everything particular can do, but it kind falls in no-man's land for me. It's not as fast as particular as far as getting stuff set up quickly and rendering quickly for a shot. But if I need something more involved, it's not as powerful as what we would do in softimage ICE or Houdini. So I tend to go one way or the either, and not down the middle road.
I'd love for it to get a refresher really. The motion blur is crazy slow..and it changes the position of the particles. So you can't test it on low settings and then turn on the MB. :(

I wasn't referring to what you can do, but how quickly you can get there.
For sure some full blown 3D systems can do more, C4D's "Thinking Particles" would be worth mentioning as well.
