Difference between Fusion studio and stand alone.

PostFri Jun 14, 2019 8:54 pm

Just wondering what the difference is between the Fusion tab in Davinci Studio version and the Fusion stand alone version.

A WORLD of difference in fact.

Fusion without Resolve's overhead is an entirely different beast.

MUCH slower in most cases, much more limited memory space, no ability to deal directly with the comp file as ascii characters etc etc. As Pieter says, a very different beast.

It's a massive bargain. And the dongle for Fusion Studio also activates Resolve Studio which means you get both for $295. Which is a fantastic deal.

Also, Krokodove… That's worth the price even if it's the only thing you got.

I notice the comparison matrix has omitted the line about native C++ plug-ins. Has that changed, or are they trying to keep hushing up the fact that there's a real SDK?

Your Resolve Studio license or dongle covers the separate Fusion Studio as well. No need to pay anything extra.

I do all but the most trivial Fusion work in Fusion Studio for most of the reasons previously stated. VFX connect works well for me.

Fu9 is not "rock solid" and I usually get several crashes per session, especially when doing tracking. The latest version of Fusion may be more reliable but I'm not such a fan of its user-interface and Fu9 does pretty much everything *I* need so I'll stick with that for the time being.

Roger - I bought Resolve Studio a while back (V17) as a dongle, and on the packaging it says 'Includes FUSION STUDIO!' (their caps)... I have the Fusion tab inside Resolve, but how do I get the satndalone Fusion Studio, as there doesn't appear to be a download link on the BMD website?

Or have I misunderstood something? (it wouldn't be the first time)

Thanks

Go to the support page: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/family/davinci-resolve-and-fusion

Scroll down in the left section until you find Fusion Studio 18.1.3 Update that is currently the latest version of Fusion Studio.

Roger - Many thanks for that - For some reason, although I'm familiar with the support page from downloading manuals and updates for hardware, it never crossed my mind to get the software from there! I was too busy looking in the nice glossy coulour 'product' pages - where you /can/ download Resolve but it only offers a 'purchase' option for Fusion.

Off to get more familiar with the standalone version now :)

Thanks again

Just a word on that : yes, that's what I thought as well. I preferred the GUI, the customization panels, the room icons took or not and even the look of colors, nodes, almost anything...
But hey, there's no competition in the performance field, not the same league at all, and since perf - like for example just playback - is THE main criteria everyone focus on...
