Premiere Pro Playback Issue

PostWed Sep 27, 2023 8:26 pm

Hi,

Blackmagic are aware of this - and have been for some months but I'm getting no where.

We first noticed playback via our UltraStudio 4K was locking up/freezing. Premiere does not crash but the timeline, source and program monitor will not play any media after a certain amount of time using Premiere Pro.

This was localised to our Mac Studio. Our PC system which uses the PCI card / cable kit to an UltraStudio was unaffected.

We are now seeing the same exact issue on our PC system. I myself use a Mini Deck Link card at home with Premiere Pro and I am now seeing this issue on my PC.

Turning off Blackmagic Playback within the Premiere Pro Playback settings fixes the issues. It's definitely a Blackmagic driver that is not playing well with Premiere Pro for some reason.

Is anyone else seeing this issue within Premiere Pro/Blackmagic Playback? - We now have two broadcast grade SDI monitors sitting on the floor not getting used as we cannot have edits locking up every ten minutes.

I've seen a ton of Premiere users with trouble using this kit. Would be nice to see a fix.

Support have at least acknowledged the issue to me - although that was a good number of months ago, and I've received no indication that they even know what's causing this particular issue. I've had three emails stating they're still looking into it.

The device's main job is playback - if it can't do that reliably, they need to stop advertising Ultra Studio / Deck Link products as compatible with Premiere Pro.

Our reseller have offered us a return and credit. At this rate it'll be AJA from now on.

I've been having this problem as well although it seems to have just started around end of August, beginning of september. I just rolled back to PP 2022. A fix is much needed.

I spoke to support last night and the tech I spoke to hadn't heard about this before. He had me update windows and to the newest version of the BMD drivers but unsurprisingly that didn't help.

I have this problem too. My ultrastudio 4k mini works perfectly with DRS, but freezes video output using Premiere Pro. Please fix this Blackmagic!

I've signed up to this forum to see if others are experiencing this very thing - and they are.

We're seeing it on two different PCs, one with a Decklink Mini Monitor 4K, one with Intensity Pro 4K and seeing it in both Premiere 23 and 24. Switching it off in Playback Preferences is the only fix we've found.

How can we get BM to take note and figure this out? It's pretty catastrophic and is making me look around at alternative hardware.

Hi. I have the same problem.
PrPro 24 with Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K. (PrPro23 same issue)
I also did all updates and resets, but issue still persists.

Today I tried disable blackmagic preview, PrPro works without problem. So I think, it is definitely Blackmagic driver issue.

did you contact Blackmagic? I think the more people who bug them about it the better. out of curiosity, what video card and drivers do you have?

i've got a dell precision 5820 workstation, windows 10 with an nvidia 3070 card running 537.42 studio drivers. I'm using a BM DeckLink Mini Monitor 4k.

Yes, I contacted BM via email on Oct 20th and haven't had a reply.

Be sure to call black magic support to log the issue. I don’t think they monitor the forums so the more everyone calls the more a priority this will be. The squeaky wheel gets oiled first. And anyone else following this thread should call again.

Hi - just adding my name to the list of people having this issue with Prem playback. It's been a problem for quite some time, I had assumed it was an Adobe issue like everything else but switching of Blackmagic playback has fixed the problem and saved me a lot of irritation.
But this renders the BM card redundant as a playback device in Premiere.

Same here! BM please fix this issue!
Since PremierePro 2023 it is not possible to work with Decklink output enabled.
I updated to the latest Decklink drivers (12.7.1), bit it still don't works.

My specs:
HPZ4 Workstation, Nvidia Quadro P1000, Windows 10, Decklink SDI

Just an update - I've now been in touch with a BM tech called Ro and they are 'actively investigating' but apparently haven't been able to replicate the issue. I've sent a video of our set up and showing the problem as it happens but haven't yet heard back on that after 7 days or so.

Problem is ongoing and the post on the Adobe forum isn't yielding any results either.

Is there an extension or email address for "Ro"? Do you have a ticket number you could DM? I will call today or tomorrow and try and speak with him also if its possible

I figured out, that it could have something to do with using the Decklink card as video output and set the audio out to desktop audio.

Can you clarify? You have the problem with video out of the decklink and audio out of desktop audio? or did setting it that way fix the problem?

My setup also has video out of the decklink and audio our via desktop audio.

Has anybody tried 12.3.1 desktop video with premiere? Is there a similar issue with Media Composer and it seems something was changed on 12.4. 12.3.1 does help on MC.

I found the hint in the adobe froum:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere ... 57#M158157

And it fixed the issue when outputting video via Decklink, to I set the primary audio in the playaback settings to Blackmagic Playback and not to desktop audio. However it is quite a limitation that you have to use the Blackmacic Playback and can not use a different audio device for monitoing audio.

Hi All

Just following up on the thread for this original issue.

Besides the work around with changing the audio to the Black Magic Deck link audio, has there been any proper solution to this particular bug in the system?

For instance, does updating to the latest PREM PRO solve the issue?

Thanks.

Regards,
Donal
