MP4 Media Offline

PostThu Nov 16, 2023 5:17 am

I have an MP4 file I have exported from Insta360 Studio. When I import the file into DaVinci Resolve on my desktop computer it is showing as media offline. When I import the file into DaVinci Resolve on my laptop I can use the file. I am unable to relink the file on the desktop machine.

Both machines are installed with Windows 11 Pro and DaVinci Resolve 18.6.3. The computers have slightly different build number for Windows, but the desktop computer has a later (latest) build. Both projects have the same project settings.

The laptop was installed with DaVinci Resolve 18, while the desktop has been upgraded from DaVinci Resolve 17 as each update has been released.

Why is the file available in one instance of DaVinci Resolve, but not the other?

Are both on Studio?

Thank you for your reply.

Both computers are using the free version of DaVinci Resolve.

10 bit files are only read by Studio.

As originally stated, both computers are using the same, free, version of DaVinci Resolve, with a slightly different build of Windows 11.

If the files were 10 bit then surely neither computer would be able to process the files with DaVinci Resolve?

Maybe one has hardware decoding and the other not? Or the HEVC extension Microsoft used to offer for one dollar?

Thank you for your response.

It is still a mystery to me. The laptop is newer, with a more powerful GPU, and recognises the files. The desktop has probably been around since before Microsoft decided that there was an issue with HEVC, but maybe one of the OS upgrades removed the capability.

My solution was to edit these specific files on the laptop. I will export all future files in a different format as the desktop feels faster to work on, even though the hardware is much older.
