SOLVED: UltraStudio 4K Mini NOT DETECTED

PostWed May 01, 2024 2:51 pm

I have been running 2 Boland monitors through a UltraStudio 4K mini for the past 2 years via an iMac with no issues. I Just upgraded the computer to a Mac Studio and now the UltraStudio 4K is not detected by the BM Desktop Video Setup/Premiere.

Nothing else changed, so we can work under the assumption that all the cables/connections are good, I literally just plugged it into the new computer. I've even tried plugging the UltraStudio into a Thunderbolt powered hub and still nothing shows up.

This problem is replicated across several edit bays, so it's not a 1 computer problem.

Specs:

Mac Studio 2023 - Apple M2 Ultra
64GB RAM
macOS Sonoma 14.4.1

UltraStudio 4K Mini
Desktop Video 12.9

Yes something else has changed - there was an updated firmware for the US 4K Mini in 12.9.

Try this and revert to 12.8.1 until BMD acknowledge and correct DV:

Thanks!

I just tried this several times with different versions of the BM Desktop Video setup to no success.
I even went back to the version I was running on my iMac which was 12.2.3 and it still does not detect the device.

Just to be clear, I'm un-installing BM Desktop Video, Installing a previous version and then going in through terminal to update the firmware of the UltraStudio 4K Mini. Everything goes through successfully, I can even physically see the screen of the device go black while it's updating, then terminal prompts me to remove the USB from it and reconnect it. But then... No cigar.

I've tried this with 12.2.3, 12.3 and 12.6 it does the same with every instance.

Yes Mario, that's what to do, correct. I can't say for definite the 12.9 firmware actually bricks the US 4K Mini on Mac; It seems to do so mostly on Windows. But it does seem to stop working and be unrecognised at least on Mac too. I think you're probably on DR 19, which states a minimum DV version, of 12.9 is necessary and that could now be your problem.

I realise it's probably a bind now to go back to both DR 18.6.6 and DV 12.8.1; but I have a feeling that is currently the only solution for the US 4K Mini. Several people have said they flagged this to BMD support, who seemed unaware of it and have not yet acknowledged an issue. But I'm not going through a scary bricking again and so I'll wait to see if the next driver update sorts this. I'm back on DR 18.6.6 too btw.

Thanks Steve for all your help in this!

After going through all of the firmware versions, 12.0 ended up fixing the issue. It showed up again on DV but not in Premiere, so I updated only the computer to 12.2.3 and everything is back up again.
