UltraStudio Recorder 3G & MacBook Air M1.....

PostMon Jun 10, 2024 1:24 pm

Greetings friends. I know this has come up a few times; I've searched through some of the other topics to see if this issue has been resolved, so far, no joy.

I've got the dreaded "No Desktop Video Device Connected" screen in BlackMagic Desktop Video. System Report is showing that the device is connected, and the white LED on the device is lit, but no applications can see the capture card. I've tried connecting multiple different cameras to the HDMI port, tried switching out which ThunderBolt 3 port it's connected to on the MacBook, even disconnecting other devices, to no avail. I've also tried the Recovery Mode/Security Settings fix, still no joy.

MacBook Air M1
OS X 14 Sonoma
BlackMagic UltraStudio Recorder 3G
Sony FDR-X3000 Action Cam
Nikon Z6

What's especially weird about this is... it used to work just fine. I ran OBS on the laptop and got signal from the camera without any issues. Because of this, I think it might have something to do with the Mac OS - I've since upgraded to Sonoma. While I haven't had issues with anything else, the UltraStudio's connection seems to be broken. I'd rather not downgrade the OS; at this point I'm not even sure that will do anything.

Any ideas? I know this hardware combination works, it used to do so no problem. I just want to have a mobile streaming rig for my DJ sets! Thanks for your time.

I'm still avoiding Sonoma, but it may help to uninstall the whole Desktop Video stuff and do a fresh install. It should even tell you what needs to be activated in the system settings, if your messaging is on.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Tried this already, with the uninstaller utility. Is there anything more I need to manually delete from Library or anything?

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. A fresh install helped me when it was not seen under Ventura.

Hi there.

First make sure that you are actually using a thunderbolt3/4 or USB4 cable.
Using a USB-C will make the computer see the interface but it will not work.

Next step is to run the uninstaller, reboot, install, grant permissions, reboot and it should work.

Both the 3G recorder as well as Monitor works perfect for me on my Mac mini M1 under Sonoma 14.5.

Tried all of this (twice now), still no joy. Desktop Video Setup still reads 'No Desktop Video Device Detected', despite the light being on on the Recorder 3G and System Report confirming that the device is connected. Any other ideas?

I know it's difficult to go back to an older MacOS. But you could try this:
– find any reasonably fast media that you can delete
- format
- install the OS your Mac came with (probably Monterey)
- boot from there
- install only DR and Desktop Video
– does it work?
– if so, update to Ventura
– does it still work?
– now try Sonoma
