Copy pasting colorgrades in color page

PostTue May 28, 2024 6:19 am

Hello,

I have more of technical explanation question, why is it - when I copy colograde from one clip to the other in colorpage, that is just does not work or does not fit on the other clip and I have to adjust it one by one?

Footage is correctly exposed for both clips, but I just can´t get why it does not fit?

Davinci will copy and paste all settings (all of this works) but why it does not fit?

What makes it so different when footage is exposed correctly?

Thank you.

It is impossible to assist without much more detailed information. Add some images to explain your problem.

I am sorry for late answer, let me explain: I make color grade on specific clip to make it look natural, I use middle mouse click (to copy whole grade to another clip) and at this point it does not fit exactly on second clip as the first one (it behaves differently - it is darker or lighter) even tho I did exposed correctly in source clip.

Without seeing your sources, it's impossible to tell you anything useful.

Hmm how could I send those? They are not small at all 4k in 60p C-Log.

Copying function works (middle click), so would it really help if I would send them? As I said - more color settings which fits one clip does not fit other.

Thank you.

It absolutely works. The normal ^C (copy) and ^P (paste) copy color commands work perfectly for individual nodes.

My best advice: for anybody new to Resolve Color, be sure to go through the free textbook and watch the video tutorials:

"The Colorist Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18", available on Blackmagic's Training website:

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... e/training

You'll find these are enormously helpful. The 4060-page manual is good as well, but the textbooks present it in a much more concise way. (A Resolve 19 update is coming soon.)

I does work, it does copy whole grade, but grade from clip 1 not always fit grade to clip 2, that is what I am asking about, why it does not fit.

Unless clip 2 is another section taken from the same source clip as clip 1, its exposure and lighting could be different as could its white balance. What looks similar to the eye is not necessarily the case hence the need to adjust.

This probably is that case, what can look same to eye, does not mean it is same in it´s core

You have just discovered what the colorist's job is: to make the grades fit the shot. It's what we do.
