Removing people

PostThu Sep 12, 2024 5:16 pm

Hello,

what is best way for removing people? I tried many possible ways - clone stamp, modified with tracker (did not worked as tracker got confused), planar tracker... same result, Object remover in Color page again same result...

Does anyone has better idea? Or what I am doing wrong?

I don´t thing my clips are as complicated for any of these not work at all...
Some people stand on bridge leading to castle, at this clip it makes "orbit" move (made from drone)

Or just inside, clip goes from close to far (again drone shot, "zoom" like efect

Fro last one, again bridge with flipped view, again doing "orbit" move with down movement around castle

Are those kind of "objects/poeple" so hard to remove/heal?

Thanks for help :)

ps.: for those wondering it is Rychmburk Castle

First thought is the tracker approach, with manual cleanup as needed. Ensure log footage is being mapped to a linear color science so the tracker works as intended, and set the tracking to "adaptive" since the view will be rotating.

If the tracker still isn't working for you, and the people aren't moving much, the number of intermediate keyframes you need for the manual tracking effort might be low.

I tried tracker (well which one you mean?) as nor planar or just tracker in color page did not make it :( .

Linear color science? I just use Color space transform node in color page for transforming it into BT.709

People are moving (some do, some not) and of course they will overlap (masks when shot moves) also I fight with problem what to do when they enter end of frame (tracker always starts to break completely as it doesn't know what to track).

Thank you

Some topics/approaches that might help.
1) I am wondering if you were relying on the color page transform for color science but then doing tracking in Fusion (calculated “before” color page effects are applied).

Manually use color transforms on the Fusion page - see tutorials on YouTube.

Or try a test project built in DR19 with the project settings configured to Davinci Resolve…”Color Managed”, and then right click on the media pool clip and go to Input Color Science and make sure it is appropriate for what the clip was shot in. Then go back to Fusion to track the clip.

2) cut a long clip into sections to make the tracking easier in each section

3) you might succeed in using planar tracker to follow say the walkway, and then Paint and/or clean plate over the people in a single frame that is then applied over the other frames of the clip section using the planar transform. I would think this is particularly effective for the zoom shots.
If not, then individual trackers to follow particular people as you were trying.

4) I presume you’ve looked at tutorials in YouTube. Might review more for dealing with log footage and tracking; how to use the spline editor to delete tracking points when your object leaves the frame; how to handle occlusion; planar and or individual trackers for object removal; and tips like cutting the clip into sections and trying the adaptive mode when tracking.

See examples such as:

Good luck.

I would probably try a 3d camera tracker to get the exact movement down.
Then paint a clean plate of the bridge, and put into 3d space with the camera track data to overlay the bridge with people on it.

If nothing work, try a demo of Mocha Pro ;-)
I talk about complex demotion, that you describe are quite simple to resolve with fusion standard tools

And SynthEyes for 3D tracking.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

That spline editor tutorial is great, it may work :) thank you.
