Best Settings for VHS Conversion

PostSat Mar 08, 2025 11:26 pm

I am a newbie to UltraStudio HD Mini, Desktop Video Setup and Media Express.

I have capture to work. However, I can't seem to get the format of the video dimensions correct (that is, the standard VHS video I am converting is 4:3 but it seems that I can only output to 16:9). I assume that is due to using BNC Male to RCA Female coax cable connectors to input through the HD Mini's SDI connection (1080p30) is that correct? If so, is there a way to connect the Y.R.W composite cables to the HD Mini to change the dimensions or a software extension?

Thank you for your response.

I was able to change the mode on the av to sci converter. User error. So I have 4:3 now. However, I am still interested in recommendations regarding settings.

I think capturing in ProRes 422 in 4x3 at 59.97i should be fine. I worry more about the VHS player in situations like this -- you need a really good player that won't produce any glitches or issues during the capture.
