Camcorder Component / RCA Audio Out Capture Method

PostFri Mar 07, 2025 5:18 am

Hello All,

I have 2 cameras and am looking for a product/ method to capture/ convert for each.

1. Sony Camcorder CCD-TRV23E (Video 8) with 6-7 tapes. Composite / RCA audio output.

2. Sony Mini DV Handycam DCR-TRV22E. DV out. It looks like I can simply connect the DV out to my Mac anc capture with Da Vinci Resolve? Any other considerations?

I have a MacPro running Montery and a Windows 10 PC, both with RX-580 GPUs.
Audio interface is a Metric Halo ULN2:
AES I/O (2 Channels)
SPDIF I/O (2 Channels)
Accurate DPLL clock with ultra-low jitter.

Spoke to Blackmagic Australia, they mentioned a post here on how to do composite. I've had a look, can't find it so far.

There are some cheap usb devices available online, (less than $20) that I'm guessing don't do a great job.

Any help much appreciated.

Can anyone shed light on this one?

I've solved point 2.

Looking for the correct method to capture composite video from an Sony old camcorder.

Apparantly it's been outlined somewhere here.

all is standard resolution ?
Maybe use DVD recorder as passthrough ?
Panasonic has some, (thrift shop)
Look for one that has also DV/Firewire input, and component video (YUV) output, (HDMI output gives HDCP conflicts with consumer products.
From component output you covert that to SDI with a Analog to SDI mini converter from Black Magic Design.
A lot can go wrong trying this with a Mac or PC, due to Thunderbolt mis matches, versions, mistaken ID of connectors, etc..
btw. you can't capture with Davinci Resolve to my knowledge and the Mac needs to have a Firewire input, (old model Mac) not a minDisplayPort, which has the same connector, but is not Firewire
Intensity Shuttle, ATEM Mini, Video Assist 5"(mini USB), Hyperdeck ShuttleHD,Analog to SDI mini-converter, software: Davinci Resolve 15 on Sierra, Resolve 18 on Catalina. (Using Apple OS 32 & 64 bit on different MacBook Pro's
