Cannot Playback Compound Clip Audio in Timeline

PostThu Apr 10, 2025 11:05 pm

For some strange reason, I cannot playback Compound Clip Audio in my documentary timeline. If I open the Compound Clip timeline, the audio is there.

When I paste the clips from the Compound Clip into the documentary timeline, they are still silent. Ditto for decomposing the Compound Clip, there is no audio. When I go into Fairlight, the add bus function is greyed out. Clips on either side of Compound Clip in the same track work just fine.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Nigel

Here is a bit more background information about the missing audio and how I solved the problem. One but not all compound clips in my documentary rough cut timeline were inaudible despite strong audio wave signals.

When I opened the compound clip timeline, the audio was functioning perfectly. Thus the compound clip was not the source of the problem. The rough cut timeline was the source of the problem.

The not so simple fix was to create a new timeline and rebuild the rough cut from scratch. Simply copying and pasting the compound clip into a new timeline solved the problem.

Prior to resorting to rebuilding the rough cut in a new timeline, I ruled out the following strategies which did not solve the missing audio problem:

1) I first verified that the compound clip was not muted, automation had not been applied and that the bus output was set up correctly in Fairlight
2) I tried relinking the audio and video source files. This did not work.
3) I tried decomposing the compound clip in the rough cut timeline. This did not work.
4) Even when I rebuilt the edited sequence from scratch in the rough cut there was still no audio.
