Import Issue with Red Footage

PostFri Apr 25, 2025 2:55 pm

Hi there, I'm dealing with Red footage in Resolve for the first time and I noticed when importing what should be a single clip of an approx hour long interview that I get over 100 short clips instead. I've hard Red splits clips like this in the root folders but I'm wondering if theres a proper way to import that will string them together. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Add the media on the Media page using Resolve's browser. Using the Import function doesn't properly recognize the encapsulating folder.

Hey there! Thanks so much for the reply. I've been trying this and the issue persists. When I add the media from the browser the clips are still split. Any known work arounds?

Did you copy complete folders or did you copy the clips only?

It's possible the clips are "spanned" if they're .r3d clips. You'll need to select the outside folders in the media page (.rdm folders), right-click, and hit "add folders and subfolders into media pool." Alternatively, I've had issues with DIT's renaming footage and it causing import errors. RED is super specific about file structure so hopefully they were imported correctly.

Alternately you can try to import (cmd-I) on the Edit page by only selecting the first 2GB clip, n_n_n_001.R3D. This method will properly import the full clip. If neither process works then something is wrong with the media, a workaround isn't necessary.

Good Luck
