Error message when transferring footage from CFAST to SSD

PostWed Jun 18, 2025 12:53 pm

Hey Everyone, I'm having some issue with data transfer from a CF Express Type-B card over to my Lacie SSD.

We recently filmed a project on a Blackmagic Pocket 6k Pro and are now trying to move the footage from the CFAST card onto my SSD, however while doing so I continue receiving the message "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8058)."

I did some digging and noticed that the CFAST card had been formatted to MAC OS Extended (Journaled) prior to filming, while my SSD is formatted to ExFat. Could this be the issue? If so, is there any way to change the format of the CFAST card without erasing the footage on the card? Or is there any solution where I can move the footage to another drive that is compatible? Please let me know :)

BTW, I am editing off of a MacBook Pro.

Thank you!

ExFAT is not reliable. Try reformatting your SSD to HFS+ (MacOS Extended) or NTFS.

Since you are on a Mac, better use APFS instead of NTFS.
But I second that exFAT is not really the best format out there.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Thanks for the reply! I reformatted my SSD to MAC OS Extended and unfortunately still not able to read or write the files from the C-Fast card onto my SSD :(

Just switched my SSD over to MAC OS Extended and the problem is still persisting unfortunately.

Try a partition repair of the CFast.
