New computer needed

PostWed Oct 13, 2021 6:58 pm

Hello,

I'm planning to buy a new Mac for running Davinci Resolve (my current one doesn't it's so old).
The one I really want is an iMac large size which might be available next spring according to rumors. I don't want to wait, I want to practice this winter. I'm looking at the rumored 16" MacBook Pro or a Mini in which case I would have to buy a monitor.

I shoot in BRaw for my art projects.

The MBP doesn't have a 4k screen and I don't need mobility. The Mini needs a monitor. I'm thinking (1) I could use the MBP until the new iMac is released and then sell it or (2) buy the Mini and a good monitor and keep that for 8 years. Problem for me is what is a good monitor. I'm not a professional. I think I would spend around $1000 which when added to the price of the Mini would be in the ballpark of the MBP.

Any thoughts on which direction you would recommend and monitor suggestions is appreciated.

Wait until Monday, but if a new mac mini is announced, that would be the most cost effective solution. Buy your own monitor and keyboard.

I'm using the current Mac mini M1 with a 27" UHD monitor by LG.
If they don't announce a new Mac mini on Monday, you could even use that as a stopgap. The monitor will always stay useful with a future iMac.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
