Aaf imports Stereo files as Mono - Fairlight Audio Work

PostSat May 28, 2022 10:08 pm

Aaf's made in premier. All stereo content comes in as split mono files on separate tracks. "Link multi channel audio" does nothing on import.

Main issue is editing multiple mono tacks, linked files and linked groups still doesn't link fade and trim editing when using a mouse and regular keyboard.

I haven't watched this, but maybe it helps?

Yes thanks that is a useful video.. although it's turned out that it's less of an import issue than an issue with how fairlight treats multiple mono (stereo) files once trying to edit them together...

Every time I try to make 2 mono files move onto a stereo track for editing they sit on top of each other on the left side of a stereo track. ("embedded channel 1").

How does fairlight treat 2 mono to stereo track for editing?

I can't seem to be able to make the 2nd mono track "embedded channel 2" to make it sit on the right side of a stereo track.

Thanks

Normally you'd put mono clips onto a mono track. Only put stereo clips onto stereo tracks.

Yeah, I understand that, but if the aaf has only mono versions (i.e. muisc.L & music.R) for Stereo music then my question was how to deal with "stereo" mixing and editing without having to control two audio tracks instead of one?

When I link groups and link clips, they still edit separately when I mouse over them and use the selection tool. Doable but very easy to make mistakes (e.g. split one and not the other etc.)

Thanks

Now you're running into the reason I stopped trying to use both Premiere and Resolve. I found it best to choose only one and stick with that.

Hi, Brendan! I've just inherited a Premiere project with exactly the same thing, stereo pairs split into 2 "mono" tracks when importing the AAF.

Did you find a good solution to convert them to proper stereo tracks?
