Ultrastudio 4K Audio Pops and Crackles on Mac OS X

PostMon Nov 18, 2019 3:24 pm

I'm using an Ultrastudio 4K with a MacBook Pro running Mojave - 10.14.6 and Desktop Video 11.1. The box is connected via Apple's thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter with nothing else in the chain. The MacBook Pro is a 15" 2017 model.

The audio out of the UltraStudio 4K is unusable - with constant crackle and pop sounds, no matter what application I'm using it in - even just playing a web video in any browser causes popping. I've had to rewire so I'm monitoring entirely out of the headphone jack on the MacBook Pro and not using the audio out of the Ultrastudio itself.

Has anyone else experienced this and have suggestions for resolving this issue? Is anyone using a similar set up without any issues?

I'm considering buying a third party thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter to see if that changes anything, but thought I'd check with the users here first. I've already zapped the pram, reset the SMB, and tried a different thunderbolt 2 cable.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Don Hertz
