Macbook pro and 6k files

PostWed Jan 22, 2020 7:18 am

This is a big topic, especially with the release of the 6k but can the latest and best MacBook pro do the job and I mean the one with say 32 gig ram and the upgraded graphics card to 8gig which comes to over five grand in oz dollars.

Looking on line is not entirely helpful as I could not find anyone with direct experience with 6k files and a MacBook. I have an iMac, the current one (not an iMac pro but nevertheless built with top specs) and that runs 4k without hiccups but 6k, on a MacBook proc? Anyone?

With an older MacBook (and mine is 2013), I have used it with optimised 4k and that does work but six k files take ages to down load if they're big, say 90 gigs and optimising them takes some time to. The lates 16" MacBook pro is certainly a different beast but I would love to hear from someone who has one and is working with six k files.

You may want to post this in the Resolve subforum too.

I was able to play 6K stuff on my Mac mini with an eGPU up to about 30 fps.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

What is the origin of the 6k files? BRAW? R3D? Those will do fine. H.264/H.265....not so much!

He was mentioning „the 6K“, so I assumed it’s BRAW.
Yes, h.264/265 would mean trouble.
