5.1/7.1 monitoring over SDI

Hello Blackmagic engineers,

I propose you to develop something that doesn't exist :

A 5.1/7.1 studio monitoring.

- Input SDI (with embedded audio)
- 8x XLR / Jack Output > to go on speakers
- SDI loop out / or SDI & HDMI loop out

For know, it's a nightmare to find something to de-embed audio from SDI for a correct price. Of course your mini converter does it, but only with 4 channels in Analog. And once the sound is deembedded, it needs to enter in a 5.1 monitoring system. All this could be simplified with a single SDI-monitoring system.

I 100% second this. We use an SPL 5.1 Monitor Controller and currently having to take 4 CH from the DNxIQ box and 2 CH from a Blackmagic SDI to Audio de-embed. There is an ever so slight difference in sync for the de-embedded channels, so those are for Ls and Rs.

A new, fairly simple IO box as described would be amazing. Personally would like to see:

- Thunderbolt 3
- SDI Out x 2
- HMDI Out x 1
- 25 pin Analogue Audio Output (8 CH minimum)
- Headphone Jack on front
- Mic Input on front
- Very quiet fan and an enclosure that doesn't suffer the same noisy fate as the AJA units.

Thanks Howard. I've come across this below. Have you used one?

I still think its worth BMD catering for 5.1 and 7.1 monitoring directly with their breakouts.

The UltraStudio 4K Mini with a 25 pin audio breakdown cable would be perfect.

No idea why today de-embedding audio from SDI need to cost a lot. Use to be crazy expensive for what reason? SDI is a format which is all about syncing/timings etc. so de-embedding audio only should be very easy. What are technical issues which make those products so expensive?
