Transcode speeds have slowed down

PostThu Aug 22, 2013 5:37 am

I'm on a retina 2.8, 16GB ram, 512 SSD trying to transcode ProRes 4444 from an Alexa to ProRes 422 LT. I used to get 48-50fps with 1-3 nodes. Lately on 9.1.3, 9.1.4, 9.1.5 - I am getting 25ish and after a few minutes it slows down to 13 ish.

I need to fix this asap and would love helpful suggestions.

I have tried new CUDA drivers - 5.0.36, 5.0.37, 5.0.45....etc ( a lot of them), plus different combinations of Resolve versions. Even with the tested CUDA version of 5.0.36 at 9.1.5 I am still getting the same problem.

What could this be?

Thanks!
Jamie

... did you started with an empty disk and now you run about 70%80% full? that might be the issue...

Just to be a little more clear - I have tried many combinations of 9.1.5, 9.1.4, 9.1.3 & various CUDA firmware versions all with little benefits.

I feel confident that the speed loss is attributed to running a qualifier on one node. Originally, I had 6 nodes. I then reduced the 6 nodes to 2 nodes and saw the speeds go from 15fps to 33, which helped. I have done this kind of work/amount of nodes before and haven't seen a 20FPS decrease in transcode speeds.

Anyone have a better idea as to why my speeds are suffering? I also thought it was the USB 3.0 Gdrive, but I was able to rule that out.

Thanks!

Video card? there are lots of posts where some of the MAC simply do not have enough fire power...

can you compare your system with the minimum recommended?

The retina has an additional 650M graphics card for CUDA accelleration in Resolve. I hardly ever see the Green or Red GPU bar light up anymore. This was after installing 9.1.5.

mmmm so, if you do not see the GPU red, is probably in the path disk/resolve/gpu/disk, or in other words the throughput does not seem to keep up.

How the status of the disk? Did you started almost clean and now you have lots of material?
Did you try to read form one disk and write on another? How you did rule out the USB 3.0 drive?
