I have bought a new video assist 12G with the old mini SDI cables but they doesn’t match. It seems impossible to find the new cables matching with the 12G monitor. Does anybody know something about that ?

The original 5" Video Assist used DIN 1.0/2.3 connectors for its SDI ports which have a push/pull locking mechanism.

The new 5" Video Assist 12G HDR has Micro BNC connectors (these are sometimes also called High Density BNC or HD BNC for short). These connectors are like a smaller version of full sized BNC connectors and have a similar half-turn twist locking (bayonet style) mechanism.

Note that there also exists a 3rd connector type for small coaxial cables called Mini BNC. These connectors are in between Micro BNC and full sized BNC in size, so they will not work with the 5" Video Assist 12G. There is a comparison of different small coaxial cable connectors (including HD BNC, Mini BNC, and DIN 1.0/2.3) in this document:
https://www.richardsonrfpd.com/docs/rfp ... ndards.pdf

There are Micro BNC (or HD BNC) to full sized BNC cables available from some manufacturers. Here are a few examples:

If you are up for making your own cables, Amphenol, Canare, and Coax Connectors all make Micro BNC connectors. Amphenol calls theirs HD BNC, most of the other manufacturers refer to them as Micro BNC:

Thanks a lot for your reply Dave, I also was struggling to understand why Blackmagic switched from DIN 1.0/2.3 (on the Blackmagic Micro Studio cameras) to Micro BNC (on the 5" Blackmagic Video Assist 12G).

If anyone has references of good 12G micro-BNC cables available in France (or at least in Euro-zone) for shipping costs, customs taxes, V.A.T. and all that stuff, I'd be very happy :-)

The manual says:

The next step is to plug your SDI or HDMI source video into the Mini BNC, BNC or HDMI input. Mini BNC to regular BNC cables can be purchased from your nearest professional video equipment stores.

I live in Italy and I haven't been able to find such cables or connectors anywhere. I found (only) one dealer from China in eBay that had Mini BNC cables that looked even remotely fitting. Well, it turns out those were still too big. So I'm still looking for these.

As a workaround I'm using a BMD Micro Converter from HDMI to SDI but that requires an external power source. Unfortunately the BMD battery converters are discontinued.

Edit:

Did they accidentally put a really obscure connector on this device or what?
