Decklink 4K Extreme 12G; Mounting the HDMI-Add-On Board

PostThu Jul 09, 2020 8:01 pm

Hi folks,

I want to install the Decklink 4K Extreme 12G in my workstation. Unfortunately, I have the problem, that the eight lane PCIe slot and a four lane PCIe slot are in an order which does not allowthe deckling board to be installed. Is there a possibility to mount the HDMI add-on board on the reverse side of the main decklink board?

Unfortunately that's not really possible with the DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G. The HDMI daughter board has an integrated expansion slot (similar in construction to a PCI slot, but with fewer pins) that fits directly onto a matching connector on the DeckLink card. There's no cable or anything that would allow for relocating the daughter board while maintaining an electrical connection.

Having said that, they do make PCIe slot extension cables, such as these:

So perhaps you could use such an extension cable to mount the entire card elsewhere in the system (assuming you have empty slots on the case itself).

thank you Dave, it really helps. I will check, whether the extension cable solution is possible, but I am not very optimistic. I have only slots available which are aligned with the mottherboard's PCIe connenctors.

Definitely a step backwards in design.
I often reconfiigured the HD HDMI card in different slots to balance PCIe lanes, and access.

This often means you need an 8 slot case.
Which is very tricky for 4U rackmount in the current world.
Awaiting r400-01 stock from InWin for months now
