Disk Speed Test on Big Sur: workaround, but needs recompilin

PostThu Jul 16, 2020 4:56 am

Hello there,

The RAW Disk Speed test app launches and runs just fine under Big Sur, but the Disk Speed Test app bounces once and stops. No crash log...

However, you can launch the app with the following workaround:

1. Right-click the application bundle and click "Show Package Contents..."
2. Go to the Contents / MacOS.
3. Double click "Disk Speed Test."
4. Perform disk tests as usual.

Be advised that the Terminal app will launch at the same time; this is normal because you are running the actual program binary directly, which macOS normally masks. Do keep in mind that you must leave the window open for the duration of your test with Disk Speed Test. As soon as you close Disk Speed Test, you may safely quit Terminal.

This workaround now longer works. With the latest version of Big Sur (Beta 7, aka 20A5374g) you get an instant crash as soon as you click the little "cog" button to select the target drive for speed testing. Definitely needs an update.
