Dell U2413???

PostWed Aug 28, 2013 3:13 pm

So I am on a budget until i can afford an HP Dreamcolor screen or a Flanders Scientific for a grading monitor. I was leaning towards an ASUS PA249Q that has been talked about as a good budget monitor to start with as it is 10bit and can cover the entire Rec 709 space. However I then found the Dell U2413 monitor and read up that there are two 14bit luts you can write to on the monitor meaning you can calibrate it, store the LUT's on the monitor itself.

Yes you need a PC to calibrate the Monitor with the Dell software, and an Eye1 pro, which I have. So in theory why cant I calibrate the monitor to REC 709 standards (which you can do) write the LUT and use this as a low cost grading monitor. Is there a flaw in my thinking. Yes I understand the benefit of a more expensive monitor and will get there but I am looking at either the ASUS, the Dell, or a Sony LMD-2110W. With the writable LUT the Dell seams like the best choice for a 10 bit panel.

As an FYI my current setup is a Mac, Declink Mini Monitor, and a Dell U2410.

what is the density of the LUT lattice you are using to calibrate the monitor?
