Well the handy part about having 2 sockets is that you can have a BM device plugged in to 1 and then use the other for other devices. That being said bear in mind that the 2 sockets probably share the same buses on the board so even though it's 2 sockets they may well share the same bandwidth along with other devices on the board. I also found I had to turn off the built in Bluetooth & Wireless to get firewire cards and Intensity cards working in the PCI-e 1x slots.
The other advantage to the Z87 board is that it uses Haswell CPU's
