I'm building Hackintosh for the 1st time for raw editing. I've intially decided on P8Z77-V PREMIUM but the latest release landed me in lil confusion.

My requirement is Raw Video Editing, Davinci Color Correction for a feature film theatrical releases.

I've two choices

Asus P8Z77-V PREMIUM which has one thunderbolt port

Asus Z87-DELUXE/DUAL which has two thunderbolt ports.

So which shall I go for ?


So the question is are two thunderbolt ports really that necessary or how far they gonna help in post production workflow, what is the real necessity of two thunderbolt ports during workflow?

and do anyone have hackintosh running with Asus Z87-DELUXE/DUAL motherboard?

Well the handy part about having 2 sockets is that you can have a BM device plugged in to 1 and then use the other for other devices. That being said bear in mind that the 2 sockets probably share the same buses on the board so even though it's 2 sockets they may well share the same bandwidth along with other devices on the board. I also found I had to turn off the built in Bluetooth & Wireless to get firewire cards and Intensity cards working in the PCI-e 1x slots.
The other advantage to the Z87 board is that it uses Haswell CPU's

Seriously, i would wait a month and get the new Asus Z87-QUAD. It will have 2 Thuderbolt version 2 ports. That would double your data rate and give you (at least) a couple more years future proofing for your system!

I would really love to wait for future proofing but let me tell u my present system spec, purchased it quite a long back, so obviously bad spec..

HP dx2480MT
CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E7400@2.80GHz, 2800Mhz
RAM : 4GB
HDD : 320 GB

Do you think I can add 16 gb ram , gtx670 4gb and 2x 2tb WD hdd on this or can you tell me ways to upgrade so that I can play with my bmcc mft

Unfortunately, I don't think that mobo and cpu will cut it. Regardless of the ram you install.

I guess if you can't wait, I would pick up the Asus Z87-Dual.

but with Asus Z87-Dual they are selling chip-set revision "C1" which Intel has admitted it has a flaw, The fixed one will have a "C2" revision, I'm not sure if asus is selling revised version?

Well, really, I haven't seen anything official that it's NOT PCI 3.

Current Thunderbolt uses PCI-e 2 and the only difference between Thunderbolt 1 and 2 is that in 2 it combines the 2 10 times channels. It's one of the things that people found disappointing is that according to the specs it still uses PCI-e 2 and hasn't been updated to use PCI-e 3
