OUTDATED & CHIPSET SPECIFIC product still sold like NEW

PostFri Aug 30, 2013 1:22 pm

I just bought the Intensity Shuttle from a video shop in Bangkok (renowned for NO returns). Even had to special order it and paid 70 dollars over list price.

Got my Universal (expected to work) SB 3.0 device all hooked up on my less than a year old AMD computer with 16GB of RAM and 4GB of video card only to find out that this USB 3.0 device ONLY WORKS ON MOTHERBOARDS introduced in 2008 (X58) or, if you install a very explicit type of 3.0 pcie card, a 2009 introduction mobo (p55).

Now why on earth this thing is being sold today as if it can run on any computer with a 3.0 USB port astounds me. Even if I was running a 4-5 year old computer, it would have been a very specific Intel chipset!!! what... no AMD support?

After nearly 20 years in computers, I've never run across something so outragious. Everyone accepts usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 devices to simply work! and suggesting i should have read the fine print specs of such a device as this is ludacris, so please don't. That would be like buying a thumb drive and someone said... "hey! why didn't you read the specs. It clearly states that this usb 3.0 thumbdrive only works on 4-5 year old computers with a specific Intel chipset... THAT dear folks is NOT universal.. it is appalling!!!

Now I find myself researching, forum hunting, and praying for a solution. What a waste of time, resources, and money.. both out of pocket and time spent.

It's so sad to see such a valuable company with such a long history and so many great products come down to this "slight of hand" advertising style. It should be clearly stated on just about every page of advertising for this products website listing that this product has very specific technical hardware requirements and issues. It clearly is NOT universal.

Almost $300.00 out of pocket and can't even use it. If only my mac pro were newer with a 3.0... at least it seems they get some respect!

Very disappointed customer.

Usb3 compatibility with the intensity shuttle is very frustrating I agree. Unfortunately that "universal" thing is bogus in regards to the full spec of usb3. The bandwidth demands of the intensity are very high and the adherence to that part of the spec is not 100% as many have found out.

I guess I was fortunate when I looked at this issue a couple of years ago as I looked at the comments online for the product and very quickly realized there were such problems. That had me chose my equipment very carefully (I did not get an intensity shuttle as a result). However my ATEM 1me's USB3 port (similar issues to the intensity shuttle) luckily is compatible with my laptop anyway.

I hope you find a workable solution in any cae.

Not sure why a modern computer with modern usb3 might have bandwidth deficiencies for something created 5-6 years ago, but I suppose anything is possible.

As far as luck... I thought I had a little going. I managed to convince the shop I bought the shuttle from to exchange it for a PCIe model, the Intensity Pro. Had to sit and talk for the better part of half an hour. Thailand is notoriously bad for no returns and if you get an exhchange, you are pretty lucky.
But that is as far as my luck went. After getting home and installing the Pro, it was at first detected by the computer, but didn't function. Though I was able to get the drivers in no problem, the control panel options were all grayed out and media xpress was nothing but black. No device was ever detected.
Tried removing the driver and a fresh boot, but then the card just disappeared, never to return. Tried another PCIe slot... no go. Tried it on an older computer and same... device manager doesn't detect it.

Both of my computers are AMD, and even my old one is quite good. I wonder if BM is simply an Intel preferred setup.

So back to square 1... out of pocket $275, wasted time... hundreds more. Now back to searching for a solution or end up telling my client I can't do what I had promised in the beginning.

Currently, Black Magic is on my Black List. Maybe when I get stateside they'll let me return it for a partial refund or something. Not likely to get that working either huh?!

AMDs are never friends with Blackmagic and many vendors will tell you before selling. Gigabyte have modern board using nec chipsets. Your solution will be to get an expansion card from any pc store
Syba (I/O Crest) USB 3.0 SuperSpeed 2-port PCI-Express Controller Card NEC uPD720200 Chipset (SY-PEX20045) and use the drivers that come with it or download from their site only. I will have sold you one with the with the Shuttle for 250 had you been in Canada and help you to fix it, because it is very frustrating not getting the card working.

If you are referring to the Z87 boards with the Renesas USB 3 then they don't work with the USB 3 Shuttle, but the Intel USB 3 on the Gigabyte Z87 boards does on the ones I've tested
