UltraStudio Recorder 3G + Thunderbolt 3>2 adapter?

PostWed Aug 26, 2020 10:28 pm

The UltraStudio Recorder 3G has output to Thunderbolt 3. Any chance this will connect to an older Mac with Thunderbolt 2 ports and an Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter?

Nope

Ultrastudio Recorder 3G with my hackintosh (TB1) on OSX 10.14.6 with the apple TB3 to TB2 adaptordoesnt work.
I have also tried the device on a Macbook Pro with TB3 - success, and on an older macbook with TB2 and the apple 3-2 adaptor (to prove it is not a hackingtosh issue), no power light on the unit.
It looks as if the difference of power supply between TB3 and TB2 is the issue.

cheers

I just tried a newish Macbook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C connectors) recently updated to Big Sur. We couldn't get a UltraStudio Recorder Thunderbolt 2 version to work with a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Anyone else run into this? The Ultrastudio LED illuminates but the Mac wasn't recognizing it as either a Thunderbolt or USB device. I thought it would work in that direction (T3 on the Mac so higher powered port) connecting to the T2 Ultrastudio.

It's likely a Big Sur issue, I've got a half dozen TB2 Ultrastudios and Mini Monitors working fine with multiple TB3 Macs under Catalina.

Good Luck

Having the same issue with the Ultra Studio Express (Using the Thunderbolt to USB C adapter). No luck on 2019 MBP. Was fine prior to the Big Sur update.

Same here, UltraStudio works fine under Catalina.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Studio 18.6.5, MacOS 13.6.5
MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro
Speed Editor, UltraStudio Monitor 3G, iMac 2017, eGPU

Did you solve your issue? I understand it's because the UltraStudio Monitor 3G is to get power from the TB3. TB 2 can't pass power. USB 3 does. So I thought I would try a TB3 to USB adapter. Do you know if this is a solution?
