Sony FS700 4k RAW files

PostSat Aug 31, 2013 2:34 pm

I'm trying to load Sony FS700 4k raw files into Resolve to create proxies but when I navigate to the folder I'm not seeing any video clips. Has anyone worked with these files before? I can't find any plugins on Sony's site that would be needed to read the files. They just list Resolve as compatible.

I used to be able to see the RAW files from the R5 recorder in Da Vinci but now clips are black. Seems the change happened after the update on the R5 firmware. I hope there is an update to Resolve 9 to fix this as I rely totally on it for my dailies.

Resolve 9 does not read FS700 files fromR5. This has been promised in Reolve 10 but no word whether in the first release. In the meanwhile, use sony raw viewer to open and do one light. Export dpx and bring that into resolve. Scratch just released version that reads these files as does premierepro cc

Thanks, that's working but when I brink in the DPX file it's extremely dark. Even if I do something crazy like boost the ISO to 10000. What am I doing wrong?

In the Export section of the Standard tab on the right side of the Raw Viewer window, look for the Bake pull-down. Choose ALL. This will bake any and all adjustments you made into the DPX and they will show up in Resolve. Also be certain to download the SLog2 LUTS which Sony has posted and put those in your LUTs folder in Resolve. They are a great starting point for grading the footage.

Not only a FS700 issue Ned. I have an F55 and since the firmware update Resolve doesn't see my RAW files.

I presume you mean since the most recent firmware update to the R5? I have not shot with a F5/55 since the update; just the FS700. I'll ping my Sony contacts and see what's up. Meanwhile, you might want to consider posting on a Sony forum.

you might debayer in "linear light"

Thanks. Ended up only being clips shot in SLog2 and baked with SLog2. We had major issues with SLog2 (massive noise) and ended up shooting without it, so those clips are fine. I also went with SStP instead of DPX, since I'm just making files for an offline edit right now.

However when I did DPX the video timecode was correct but the WAV files had an offset of about +6 seconds. Any ideas?

I'm assuming since Resolve can't read the RAW files, I'll need to make DPX files once the edit is done of every clip that is needed, right?

When conforming, will it matter if the files don't have the exact name? Like when making a DPX, it has the original file name but appended with the range of frame numbers used in brackets.

For the conform, test the workflow (with external debayer to DPX) very early with a roundtrip: you do not want to spend days to make your conform fit.
