I have just wasted about 10 hours (not an uncommon event when Blackmagic's "bugs" rear their ugly head) trying to figure out why I can't capture 2K video with my Teranex 2D units. Out of four separate devices, 3 of them instantly "locked up" when I selected 2K on the front panel, and then I realized that Media Express doesn't even give me 2K as a capture option (with the Teranex connected)!
After hours upon hours trying earlier versions of software/firmware etc., I finally admitted defeat. Then I happened to stumble across an old user review of the Teranex 2D, from about 2012, which mentioned that 2K support hadn't been implemented yet. So...was it ever implemented??! And if not, shouldn't my long (and fruitless) chat today with Blackmagic tech support have revealed this?!
So then I hit upon a brainwave; I could do the 2K up-conversion with the Teranex, as a stand-alone converter, and do the actual capture with my old Blackmagic Multibridge Eclipse. Not ideal, but a workable solution. Only then did I discover that 2K is ALSO not a supported capture resolution with the Multibridge Eclipse, even though (like the Teranex) it supposedly supports 2K.
WTH?! Seriously? After spending several thousand dollars on Blackmagic equipment, all of which "supposedly" supports 2K, none of it actually does? (at least not as far as capture is concerned).
Can anyone shed any light on this at all? PLEASE?!! Aside from the wasted time, (and wasted investment), it's HIGHLY embarrassing to have to tell a client that I can't actually do the job I said I could do.
And what redress do I have against Blackmagic, for selling products which don't actually work the way they're supposed to?! Surely this can't be legal!! So, please, if you have ANY advice/knowledge/experience with 2K capture on the Teranex 2D (or the Multibridge Eclipse), please do get in touch! Thank you!
