[Solved] No Input on Linux Debian with a DeckLink Quad

PostTue Sep 03, 2013 1:37 pm

Hi,

We're trying to use a DeckLink Quad on a Linux Mint Debian Edition.
We've installed successfully the desktopvideo-9.7.7-i386.deb but we didn't succeed in viewing any video input (we tried with a simple PAL video camera) neither with MediaExpress nor with a gstreamer solution.

MediaExpress is launching without problem.
But we can't view any sources. In fact, we don't even know how to select them in MediaExpress (we've got 4 possibles sources). The Black Magic control panel doesn't seem to be helpfull for this task, the Desktop_Video_Manual_July_2013.pdf didn't give us any information about that.

Furthermore, if we try to use Gstreamer, with the command line (we imagine that subdevice allows us to choose which input we want to look at) :

Code: Select all
gst-launch-0.10 -v decklinksrc mode=2 connection=0 subdevice=0 ! ffmpegcolorspace ! xvimagesink sync=false

no output ...

Is the problem coming from the fact that we want to acquire PAL signal threw SDI connection ? Is it possible to acquire SD video with the blackmagick quad under linux ?

Sorry for all those questions, any help is welcome
thanks

Yep,
answer to our own pb :)
in fact we had to plug the video output (SDI not SD/PAL) of the camera on the "IN 4" connector of the decklink quad card so as to have an image in Media Express :!: :?:
so a few more questions :
- Is it possible to choose which input feeds Media Express ?
- Is it possible to choose which input feeds bmdcapture ?
- Is it possible to choose which input feeds gstreamer ?

thanks

Problem solved by installing a 64 bit version of debian, we see now the /dev/blackmagic0,1,2,3 as 4 different devices
On a 32 bit system :
Code: Select all
dmesg|grep blackmagic
...
[ 10.991001] blackmagic: Successfully loaded device "blackmagic0" [pci@0000:05:00.0]
[ 10.991140] blackmagic_driver 0000:06:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
[ 10.991147] blackmagic_driver 0000:06:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 10.991166] blackmagic_driver 0000:06:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 14.458011] [] ? dl_vmalloc+0xd/0x10 [blackmagic]
[ 14.458019] [] ? dl_vmalloc+0xd/0x10 [blackmagic]
[ 14.458024] [] dl_vmalloc+0xd/0x10 [blackmagic]
...
[ 21.198159] [] ? blackmagic_probe+0x69/0x170 [blackmagic]
[ 21.198200] [] ? pci_blackmagic_init+0x37/0x39 [blackmagic]
[ 21.202581] blackmagic: ERROR: failed to download firmware
[ 21.202592] blackmagic_driver 0000:08:00.0: PCI INT A disabled

as mentioned here in post : viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5081#p35701 (not allowed to post url ?!)

we now just need v4l2 drivers (subliminal message)

For bmdtools on 64 bit system use -C cmd line param.
More info:
bmdcapture -h
