Corrupt BRAW file - please help!

Hi guys, long time reader first time poster here.

I had a shoot with a large client yesterday and we use the iPad Pro to copy files from CFAST to SSD. All seems fine, the shoot overruns so we need to wipe one card rather than taking back for double copies. The card in question has essential footage on, and for the first time in 8 years I've broken my golden rule of not having double backups.

5 of the 6 files open in DR, but have artefacts and line skipping/colour bars in areas of the image so are NOT usable. The 6th file does not show a preview thumbnail just the default BRAW logo in finder, does not open in RAW Player and is not recognised in DR media pool. That file also doesn't play when put back into the camera on a CFAST card. I am presuming a bad copy through the iPad - this is a new system for us and won't be one I will be repeating.

Facing having to do a full re-shoot, are there any helpful tips to recover the partially corrupted files or especially the last unreadable file, please?

Not really, if the original card has been used again.
But in the future, please don’t trust system copies. At least use the clone function in DR, first thing after shooting. In our teams it’s strictly forbidden to even look at content before copying, apart from the cameraperson before confirming it’s a wrap.

Do you have a screenshot of the corrupt frame?

If you have reused the card, its unlikely old clips remain but you can try file retrieval apps just in case.

As a rule, never overwrite or erase or format a camera card/drive until you have two copies of it made with an app that makes and verifies a checksum, like DaVinci Resolve.

Can’t agree more then what has already been mentioned here.

Regarding your reshoot, did you have your footage covered with insurance policy.

You probably already aware but you can look into a data wrangler software in the future like Hedge, Silverstack or Davinci if you have someone to manage the process.

Coming back to your footage. Now this could also be the file itself or card then just the copy process.
Might want to do some research but I have tracked some comments that BRAW can be buggy. Which was a reason for us to stick with ProRes for now.

Hereis also a similar issue.
