I'm trying to get DVCam and MiniDV video into my resolve I have about 75 hours of documentary video that I want to digitize one final time. I have a Sony DVR-11 DVCam Deck with a 4pin Firewire out. If I convert that to USB (to into my PC). Will Resolve recognize it or do I need to send the tapes out to be digitized?
It might be easier getting an old Mac with Firewire, then using that to digitize the signal to an easily-playable digital format (like ProRes 422), and then take that file out and use it in your session.
I seem to recall there were some high-end DVCam decks that had digital SDI, digital HD-SDI, and Y/Pr/Pb analog outputs, and those you could feed into several different Blackmagic capture cards and boxes. One such deck is the Sony HVR-1500, and it'll play almost anything. The question is what kind of condition a deck this old could be in, and that's open to interpretation. The other question is whether buying a machine like this from eBay is cheaper than just paying a dubbing company to digitize the tapes for you.
