Colour Grading Gamma and colour space Workflow Resolve
Hi all.
I have a couple of questions which i've been unable to find the answers to so i'm hoping the collective wisdom can help here.
I want to double check what settings my external grading monitor should be for both monitor and Davinci Resolve. Firstly should it be using Gamma 2.2 or 2.4? my work usually ends up on web but if there's a purpose for each gamma I would be interested to hear. Should both software and monitor be the same or does it not matter.
The BENQ monitor has a REC709 setting and a custom setting. I haven't used this because my monitor calibration process required me to select the custom setting and lower the brightness and adjust the RGB output levels prior to the calibration starting. Is it better to use the Rec709 function or stick with the custom setup that
Occasionally I find that my rendered file from Davinci Resolve is different to the output on my program monitor. What is the main cause of this? I'm aware that quicktime is bad for checking renders but it happens occasionally in VLC aswell. I have calibrated the monitor using the LUT creation for resolve and then updated the 3D video monitor lookup table with this LUT.
This is my setup:
Mac Pro 2009 with Resolve 16
AMD Radeon HD 7950 - Display Port to 4K Dell Ultrasharp P2415Q monitor for GUI.
Decklink Mini Monitor HDMI to BENQ PD2700Q (main grading monitor)
BENQ has been calibrated with SpyderX through the Cal3 software and resolve calibration panel.
Any advice or common things to check would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Darren
