Upgrades

PostThu Oct 29, 2020 10:20 pm

Why is it necessary for the user to uninstall, reboot, then install the upgrade, and reboot?

1. I do not understand why a reboot would be necessary?
2. I do not understand why the upgrade cannot do what needs done whether that is an overwrite or a uninstall/install saving the configuration data.

This is not a big deal, just as a retired IT guy, in this day and age I would lobby for updates that can happen in the background once initiated.

Thanks,
Harry

Upgrading what? Cameras, recorders or DR?
For cameras or recorders it’s like upgrading your OS on a computer. I don’t know of similar devices not needing a full reboot (plus caution not to interrupt the process).
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Well I've never done the two reboots when upgrading a programme on a PC. But I have found that without an uninstall first, Windows will more often than not take a full installer and just take the bits that are different from the current installed version, treating it just like an upgrade. This can cause all sorts of problems which an uninstall prevents.
