Searchable Database of Video Clips?

I’m approaching this as someone who is engaged in a long-term documentary project, although the same issue would arise with creating a stock footage library or working on a long form narrative project.

Is there a good application for making a searchable database that includes camera (EXIF) data and IPTC, especially keyword, data? I know that IPTC for video is being developed, but it remains a work in progress and may be some ways off.

Of the NLEs, my understanding is that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable for this purpose, but are there other options?

I’ve tried Photo Mechanic, which recognises QuickTime .MOV files, but it’s a bit clunky with video. Also, I have been unsuccessful getting Final Cut to recognise data input with Photo Mechanic. Don’t know why, it may be an XMP issue. Although I haven’t tried it, Adobe Lightroom in Library mode may be an option. It recognises .MOV files, but not .BRAW. Capture One does not recognise video files.

Is anyone using an app that’s working for them for this purpose? Is the data searchable from within your NLE?
