Dynamics Effect on one clip in Fairlight

PostFri Nov 13, 2020 3:08 pm

Hi Everyone.
It drives me crazy that I can't find a way to add a dynamics effect
directly on a specific audio clip in fairlight.
I know that I can add it to the whole channel, but what about adding dynamics or
sepcifically a compressor to a specific clip?

Thanks!

Just select the clip and go to the Effects library in Fairlight, find a compressor, and drop it on the clip. For a standard compressor you'd need to use a third-party one; the ResolveFX only have a multiband compressor although there's a basic compressor in the Dialogue Processor FX and the Vocal Channel FX.

If you want to use any of the Resolve FX or third-party plugins on the entire track, drop it on the track header. If only for a specific clip, drop it on that clip. I think there's a limit on the number of effects you can add to the track header, at least in Resolve 16; I haven't checked out the beta for 17 yet.

Thanks for the detailed reply.
I acctually wanted using a regular compressor on a clip but I guess that is not availabale right now as you mentioned.

Fairlight has a regular compressor in the effects library. Drag it on a clip.

I went over every effect in the effects library in resolve 16 free version and couldn't find.
Could you send me a print screen of the effect button or it's exact name?

Thanks!

I don't see it in the beta for v. 17 either (although as I noted there are basic compressors in the Vocal Channel and Dialogue Processor). There are loads of free VST compressors as well; any of them should work with Fairlight. I assume you're using Windows, as the Mac comes with a bunch of free AU plugins, including dynamics, that show up in the effects library.

Sorry i mis spoke before. double click the dynamics in the mixer, rather than the effect list.

Hi, Yeah I know about this dynamics plugin which contains a compressor.
What I was referring to is a stand alone compressor that can effect only a specific clip.

I understood that there isn't anything like that so I use the vocal channel effect / or using a VTS plugin.

Thanks,
Noam

I just worked around this by creating a second A2 Audio track and applying the fixes I needed there for my uncorrected audio. It was easy to match the updates I had made to my ATEM mini settings between sessions, thank goodness.
