Using TWO Ultrastudio monitor adapters ?

Do you have questions about Desktop Video, Converters, Routers and Monitoring?

Using TWO Ultrastudio monitor adapters ?

PostWed Jan 13, 2021 2:01 am

I wonder if somebody can give advice about the following.

Question: If I'm using a Mac Mini M1 (which provides 2 built-in outputs), can I add TWO Blackmagic UltraStudio Monitor 3G devices to get four outputs in total?
Assume I'd be running 1080p30 - nothing too extreme in terms of resolution etc.

I know the M1 only allows for two "graphics" outputs, but these Ultastudio outputs would be "video" outputs which my software (ProPresenter) can address separately.

(Related question: I assume the SDI and HDMI outputs on the Ultrastudio Monitor are NOT independently addressable - they will always output the same signal - true?)

Thanks in advance.

If you are referring to Resolve: no, only one is supported. And then, one device will carry the same signal on HDMI and SDI.
Resolve Studio 16.2.8 and Fusion Studio under MacOS Mojave 10.14.6
iMac 2017 Radeon Pro 580 8 GB VRAM and 32 GB RAM
2018 Mac mini 16 GB RAM plus eGFX Breakway Radeon RX 580
(currently my test system for DR 17 beta under Catalina 10.15.7)

Thanks for confirming that the SDI and HDMI outputs will carry the same signal.

I'm not using resolve (the application is live presentation using ProPresenter). But I'm wondering if running two Ultrastudio Monitors together, on a mac mini, will work from a hardware point of view. In terms of displayport bandwidth etc.

Have a look at this: youtu.be/mXhV73DjRqs

you could possibly use an ultrastudio HD mini which has 2 outputs

But I understand that Tom wants two different signals.
Resolve Studio 16.2.8 and Fusion Studio under MacOS Mojave 10.14.6

Yes, I need two distinct output signals and it looks like the ultrastudio HD mini can only deliver the same signal to both outputs.

Uli, thanks for the pointer about the Thunderbolt hub - looks very promising, and the video gives helpful info about bandwidth etc.
