Levels: LimitedToFull in a SDI chain?

PostFri Mar 26, 2021 3:46 pm

Dear forum

I am looking for a way to have an
SDI INPUT (Limited Range)
and convert to
SDI OUTPUT (Full/Extended Range)

so basically I need a hardware device with SDI IN and OUT that can scale the range.
Does anyone know of this?
I need something affordable.

Thanks for your hints
Cheers

Research so far under the "too expensive" cathegory:
- Teranex AV, and manually adjust Gain/Lift
- LynxTechnik greenMachine Titan (I mean look at that monstrosity)
- Build a device using Decklink cards and FFmpeg during my holidays

From the "common sense" cathegory:
- Teranex Mini does "sandbox" its LUTs into a IN/OUT limited-level reverse, so LUTs don't work. It's always limited.
- Teranex Mini does not let me set the output range (but should!)

AJA converters do it, but no sure if you find one with SDI IN/OUT.
There are definitely ones which will do it but output HDMI (350-800$).

I'm sure there are other options out there - have you looked properly?

Why do you need to scale levels?
If a device supports SDI in most cases it detects levels and correctly processes input.
