Windows laptop to eGPU to iMac

PostTue Mar 30, 2021 6:42 pm

Random question. I'm not sure if this will work since the model iMac that I have does not support Target Display Mode, but figured I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else has found a viable workaround…

Does anyone know if this setup would work to use my 2017 iMac (personal computer) as a monitor for my HP EliteBook (work laptop)?

HP laptop > DisplayPort > DP to HDMI adapter > HDMI > Blackmagic eGPU > Thunderbolt 3 > iMac

And if the answer is "no," does anyone know a way to use this iMac as a monitor for this laptop that doesn't involve Basecamp or remote desktop software (i.e. I want to be able to plug in and accomplish this, if possible)?

Thanks!

Apple canceled that possibility in recent iMacs.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Studio 18.6.6, MacOS 13.6.6, 2017 iMac, 32 GB, Radeon Pro 580
MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro
Speed Editor, UltraStudio Monitor 3G
