Isolation of In-Outputs on Micro Converters

Does anybody know if the in- and outputs (especially SDI loop out) on the Micro Converters provide any galvanic isolation and therefore protection of the cameras SDI output against the 'dreaded' 12G-SDI circuit burning issue Arri and others have made users aware of?

(Please don't dicuss the feasibility of 12G-SDI, don't say it's a non-issue, just discuss the technical side: Are the Micro Concerters a solution or not.)

Wait longer as we have COVID which is now "a reason for anything bad" happening :)
Not sure if anyone here can answer it for you. You would need an electronics guy to actually look at it (even then it may not be that easy to give an answer).

That's why I was thinking: It must not be much of a hassle. It's a yes or no question. Indeed one that only an engineer can give, but I'm guessing, support has some channels of communication for things they just don't know, like towards product development...

And I assumed an inquiry at engineering and one response later to me should be possible in that time, even during COVID.

I'm not assuming that they need to open up an actual unit to find somebody to confirm or deny this.

I openened the ticket on 4/16 actually.

If you google you can find that AJA converters with optical modules (FiDO range) have galvanic isolation:
"Galvanic isolation prevents eventually existing ripple pickups"

Indeed - I just assume that's just between SDIs and Fiberside of the converter?

And that's something that I could also see with the Micros. I guess with the HDMI conversion it's not a problem on the HDMI side, but the SDI Loop Out probably isn't isolated either.

A bit less pricey for when you don't need an actual 12G output in the first place :lol:

Basically I was just wondering if one couldn't just use a micro converter the achieve the same thing and would even get a HDMI output on top. But looks like it isn't that easy.

I don't think so. I think it requires specific design, so would make products more expensive.
You can ask AJA support if their products have it (but I don't think they do either).

They don't. SDI are chassis grounded as a rule. Proper grounding of patch panels requires bonding to the electrical ground.
