Ultrastudio Mini Recorder with HDMI extender

PostWed Jun 02, 2021 7:15 pm

We have an Ultrastudio Mini Recorder that is capturing fine from an HDMI-equipped camcorder (into Zoom).

We need to extend the camera some way away, so we've just bought an HDMI-over-Ethernet extender in anticipation of using it for that purpose.

The extender itself seems to work, because if you plug its output into an HDMI monitor, there's the picture from the camera.

But the US Mini Recorder is showing nothing (either in Zoom, or Media Express, or anything).

Is this something to do with HDMI control signals not being passed or something? Could anyone explain and/or suggest a workaround?

Thanks
Adrian

You could try a cheap Chinese HDMI splitter, which helps us when going the other way around.
HDMI has its voodoo.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Yes, we have one of those and have tried it, but doesn't help.

Is there a technical reason that any BM people on here could illuminate?..

You wanted to say: "it's BM HDMI implementation voodoo" as other brands have no issues (or 100x less often).

I assume your signal is on the list of supported by BM Mini recorder (if you connect directly to camera it works, but through extender doesn't)?

If it's a common BM issue with some of their devices then try using non-passive splitter. It has to be one which is powered and has own EDID.
