Ultrastudio 4k not recognised by Macbook

PostFri Jun 11, 2021 11:53 am

Problem:
Ultrastudio 4k not recognised by Macbook

Macbook 16" 2019 Intel
MacOS 11.4
Latest Desktop Software

Used to run fine, then for some reason the Ultrastudio was not recognised anymore.

I can re-intstall the Desktop Software, then I have to re-boot and then it works again.
But after the next launch it does not work anymore. Can't re-install the software every day...

Checked the posts in the forum, problem does not seem to be in the privacy settings, since everything is checked on.

Any Ideas?

Thank you

Felix

Ok, I think I found it:

Intel Macs aren't supported with the Ultrastudio 4K.
That is what the installer window says.

So how can I use this thing with my Macbook from late 2019?

That is not factual. I'm running a 2019 16" MacBook Pro with UltraStudio 4K Mini as we speak. Did you also un-install the previous version of Desktop Video before installing the latest update?

I think it’s an error. Some devices are not supported on M1 machines, not the other way around.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

The UltraStudio 4K Mini is compatible with the M1 chip.

I know, this was a general hint at a possible source of the erroneous message.

@Felix
Maybe some steps from this help on Intel too: https://blueframetechnology.freshdesk.c ... -s-m1-chip

Yes, I always run the uninstaller first.
Tried older versions of desktop video, switched cables.
The Ultrastudio is detected after first reboot.
But when I start the MacBook again itˋs not working anymore.

Tried different solutions i found in the forum, nothing worked.

Maybe it’s MacOS 11.4.

1. unplug the ultrastudio
2. uninstall desktop video
3. open the security&privacy control panel
4. unlock and let the general tab open
5. install desktop video 12.1
6. allow in the general tab (if asked)
7. push restart in the installer
8. plug in the ultrastudio

if this does not work, use an other TB (with a flash and a 3 printed on the plugs!) cable (shorter are better)

It should have nothing to do with the update to MacOS 11.4.
I was using the USMM (the older version with TB2) with my Mac mini and it still works after updating the OS.
If the US 4K is not completely different in this respect it should work too.

Thank you all for your ideas and comments.

Basically I tried many of the security related solutions that helped others.
I think there are quite a few in the forum here regarding Macs and other BMD products:

1. unplug the ultrastudio
2. uninstall desktop video
3. open the security&privacy control panel
4. unlock and let the general tap open
5. install desktop video 12.1
6. allow in the general tap (if asked)
7. push restart in the installer
8. plug in the ultrastudio

@Uli: The solution for M1 Mac does not seem to work.

It is not the cable, since I have been using it since 2020.

And: The Ultrastudio is recognised, but only after first reboot.
And: Problem occurred with recent MacOs update last week.

Maybe some are lucky if Ultrastudio 4K works on Intel Macs, but it is not supported by Blackmagic and hopefully there will be an update soon. I attached a list of supported products for Desktop 12.1.

Hi Jon, good if it works for you.
Worked for me too until I upgraded to 11.4.
But it's not officially supported by BMD, otherwise it would be listed as a supported product.
And that seems to be the problem if no other solution works.

Ok, then it is supposed to run on Intel Macs as well.

Still does not run on my Intel Mac, only after first reboot.
